A Tibetan arrested for suspected of being behind of a bomb blast in Tibet: report

26june20091Dharamshala: 26-June-www.thetibetpost.com-A report from Tibet said, that Mr. Tashi, a Tibetan and a local official from Bhathang county eastern Tibet, was arrested on his way home on 19 June suspected of organization of a bomb attack in Tibet at the height of anti-China protests nearly three months ago. Before the arrest many protesters suspected of hanging politically motivated banners in the area managed to escape.

According to the report, Tashi is suspected of being behind of an explosion at the Chinese police building of Pogurshi township, Bhathang county, eastern Tibet in March this year. His arrest comes after many young Tibetans escaped from the areas as they were suspected of hanging banners in the township and its surrounding areas. It read "Go Back Chinese" "Free Tibet" and "Long live His Holiness the Dalai Lama" in Chinese and Tibetan."

Tashi, a 40 years old Tibetan, a son of Urgyen Rigzin (Father) and Akyid (Mother) was local official of Phogurshi township, Bhathang county, eastern Tibet. There is still no confirmation where he has been detained or still alive after he was arrested by the armed Chinese military forces in the area.

Since March 2008 over 220 Tibetans have been killed, 1,294 injured and 290 sentenced, more than 5,600 were arrested or detained and over 1,000 disappeared after the Chinese armed military deadly cracked down in all parts of Tibet.  Newly minted warrants and ramped up security forces make life increasingly more difficult for Tibetans to live inside Tibet.  China’s human rights violations are swept under the “rug” of propaganda because foreign journalists are highly restricted throughout Tibet and only some selected small groups are permitted to visit Lhasa, the capital of Tibet and other Tibetan areas.

Tibet's ex-political prisoners join International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

Dharamshala: 25-June-www.thetibetpost.com-Ven. Ngawang Woebar, the director of the  ex-political Tibetan prisoners organization, "Guchusum Movement" held a press conference today to observe the 'International Day in support of Victims of Torture.' The released statement said "International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is observed every year on June 26 as on that day in 1987, the United Nation’s Convention against Torture came into effect. It is on this day that we pay deep respect and tribute to all those around the world who have suffered and endured the worst torture."

"Fifty long years have passed since China invaded Tibet. 1.2 million Tibetans were brutally killed. Tibetan people were and are still being subjected to different forms of torture. Tibetan women, children and older people who should be protected by the law are being discriminated against and tortured. For instance during the1980s’ in Lhasa, there was a group called Taktuk (cub of tiger) organization whose members were aged between 13 to 17 years old. Most of the young members were mercilessly killed by the Chinese army. Many were imprisoned and were subjected to such unimaginable sufferings that many chose death and committed suicide inside the Chinese prisons.

Electric shocks, kicking and beatings, striping naked, throwing boiling water on the face, standing bare foot on ice are commonly used by Chinese authorities on Tibetan political prisoners in a futile attempt to destroy the spirit and break their resolve.
Torture is the most profound abuse of human rights. Gu-Chu-Sum Movement of Tibet is actively initiating political campaigns to put a stop to the wanton torture perpetrated on Tibetan political prisoners.

On this day, we offer our fervent prayers and express solidarity with the Tibetans who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom struggle, and to those who are still languishing in Chinese prisons. We are organizing photo exhibitions, essay writing, talks and a play depicting ‘the plight of political prisoners’ in Tibetan Communities and schools.

Gu-Chu-Sum Movement of Tibet appeals to all governments and international communities to take action to defeat tortures and torturers everywhere. From today, we are observing everyday as the day to stop torture till June 26, 2010 and will relentlessly campaign for the release of all Tibetan political prisoners."

On 16 June, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also issued a message for the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, to be observed tomorrow.

He said, "I urge all United Nations Member States that have not yet done so to ratify and implement in good faith the Convention against Torture and the provisions of its Optional Protocol. I also appeal for all Members States to invite the Special Rapporteur on Torture to visit places where persons are deprived of liberty in their country and to extend their cooperation to allow full and unhindered access."

Chinese writer: Tibetan “democracy plays a significant role in the Tibetan issue"

23june200946Dharamshala: 24-June-www.thetibetpost.com-Chinese famous writer Mr. Wang Li Xiong is on his 2 months trip in Dharamshala, where the Tibetan Government  in exile based for last 50 years, he spoke about Tibet issues at a panel discussion which organized by Tibetan writers "Tibetan Pen". Titles such as Reflections on Tibet,  Discussion with the Dalai Lama,  and The Fate of Tibet are attributed to a widely know Chinese intellectual, Wang Li Xiong. Around 70 Tibetans including writers and journalists gathered at the discussion forum yesterday, he said “I used to write about the landscape, culture , and people, but since I meet my wife Woser I began to write passionately about the Tibet Issues.  She is like my window to the real suffering and real life of Tibetan people.”

He believes that meeting with his wife was an act of fate because it led him to his life’s work.  He said “when her father passed away Woser discovered he had a collection of undeveloped film her father shot related to the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Luckily she trusted me enough to send the films to me. I developed the film and I realized that they were important to Tibetan history, I told her that as a Tibetan it was her responsibility to safe guard the films.  Using the photos I sent her she contacted individuals. She wrote a book called Revolution. The Cultural revolution, is a disastrous time in Tibetan history that is often not spoken about, there is a gap, she filled a gap in history.”

Wang Li Xiong’s idea of  “progressive democracy” is unlike western democracy because it is not built on competition and opposition parties. He said “different societies need different democracies.”

Wang said, "Tibetan leader should work towards development of modern Tibetan democratic system and  encouraged further democrat developments in the exile Tibetan society.  he also urged exile Tibetan people to support the middle-way peace process that approached by the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, he said "It is important to understand why His Holiness the Dalai Lama is approaching the middle-way policy. During his meeting with the Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama told the Chinese writer that his main goals are to create mutual respects between different religious and promote harmony and world peace.

He said “Tibetan democracy plays a significant role in the Tibetan issue right now, I can see much more developments here. His Holiness has the capability to unite Tibetan people; democracy should replace His Holiness the Dalai Lamas institution when the current Dalai Lama passes.  Although China is developed economically, socially and militarily, but what they lack is democracy and the Tibetan exile government has that. For those who live inside Tibet democracy in Tibet is attractive like a like in darkness.”
